Earlier in the summer I found a cache of luscious wild green grapes out behind our barn. The growth of all vegetation has been phenomenal this season and it appears that the grape vines have followed that pattern. The combination of a cold and rainy Spring followed by a blistering hot Summer has made for an over abundance of vegetation! Our tiny acreage has been no exception and the grape vines are thick and dense.
The green grapes fell out of my mind due to the press of other garden chores, but I woke this morning thinking about them and decided to go and have a little look/see. I was pretty sanguine about the possibility of any harvest because most years the birds get to the grapes long before I do and we are always pleased to let them share our harvest.
Imagine my surprise when I ventured into the wild tangle behind the barn and was able to pick this basket full in a matter of minutes.
You don't have to be psychic to figure out that the making of grape jelly is in the very near future for me! Now if I can only find enough sealing lids. Due to Covid and the "do it at home" movement" the stores seem to be empty. Who knows I may have to resort to sealing with wax the way our Grandmothers did! Wish me luck!
